Denis Kudla v Jack Sock Head to Head
These two have had an interesting rivalry with nine matches played between them and Sock leading 5-4. However, that was all before 2016 when they last played in the opening round of the Toronto Masters, after which the rivalry will now resume at this Indian Wells Challenger.
Kudla Excelling at Challengers This Year
The only non-Challenger event Kudla played at in 2020 is the Australian Open and he failed to make it past the second qualifying round. Other than that, things have looked very solid for him at the lower circuit as he has made the quarterfinal of two of the events including this one, semifinal at the Canberra Challenger and the final at Dallas.
And that sterling showing has been on display even here at Indian Wells, when he shocked Jannik Sinner in the third round of the competition earlier this week. Kudla was a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 winner against the Next Gen star Sinner to proceed to the last eight.
This was after he had gotten himself a first round bye and then crushed Maxime Janvier in his opening round match in straight sets.

Sock Slowly Moving Back to His Best
Injuries looked to have taken a toll as Sock crashed out of the ranking charts but made a comeback earlier this year with a wild-card for the New York Open. While he lost in straight sets in his opener there, the good signs were there.
Sock managed to win his first match in a while at Delray Beach, beating Marcos Giron in his opener there before getting edged out in a three-setter by Steven Johnson. And here, at the Indian Wells Challenger, he has already taken out Ugo Humbert in the second round in straight sets before needing a final set tie-breaker against Evgeny Donskoy.
Now comes a real challenge against a player who understands his style of play rather well. And one in an excellent form at these levels this season.

Kudla will start off a favourite here and while Sock can be expected to give him a run, it looks like this contest will be headed the way of the former.
