Ekaterina Alexandrova v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head
These two players have played each other just once before this and it was Alexandrova who had emerged winner in that match. It came at the 2019 Linz Open with the Russian scooping the encounter in straight sets.
Alexandrova Got off to a Flier
After winning the lower-ranked event in Limoges in both 2018 and 2019, Alexandrova went on to finally clinch her first real WTA title earlier this year at Shenzhen. She won against Wang Qiang, Garbine Muguruza and Elena Rybakina over her final three matches at that tournament to lift the title.
Things looked like they could get only better when she reached the third round at the Australian Open which followed but Petra Kvitova got the better of her at that stage. A couple of wins at the Fed Cup followed soon after, before she made it to the semifinals at St. Petersburg, losing to Kiki Bertens at that stage.
A first round loss in Doha was her last outing before the pandemic broke out, but she has returned since then, playing in exhibition tournaments like the Tipsport Elite Trophy. Unfortunately for her, she won just one of her five matches in that tournament, which was also played on clay.

At one stage, in a not so distant past, Mladenovic was ranked as high as number 10 on the WTA singles rankings. Her doubles play continues to remain as attractive but her singles performances have fallen off the rails a tad.
Now ranked 42nd in the world, Mladenovic was 4-5 on win-loss in main draws this year before the break for the virus. This included a couple of first round defeats like at the Australian Open and Doha International and another couple in the second round.
Since returning from the break, Mladenovic has participated at the Challenge Elite competitions where she made it to back to back finals and lost both times to Fiona Ferro. To go with that, she was beaten in round one of the third edition a few days ago after losing the first set and retiring from the second.
