Dayana Yastremska v Oceane Dodin Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between the two at all levels and the first on the WTA circuit. In their first match which was played in an ITF competition on grass, Dodin had beaten Yastremska in straight sets in 2017. Things have improved drastically for Yastremska since then.
Yastremska Shrugs off Rustiness
The 20-year-old Yastremksa enters her second round match after registering a straightforward opening win over Sara Sorribes Tormo. She won 6-3, 6-4, and there were moments in which she did find herself in a spot only to climb out of the hole.
For instance, in the second set, Tormo led 4-0 and thoughts of a third set loomed large. Yastremska, however, fought back well to break her opponent twice in a row to level the set and then completed the last rites to enter the second round.
This came on the back of a rather break from competitive tennis for Yastremska, who was also involved in off-court controversies during the time. Before tennis went on a pandemic-forced break, the Ukrainian had made it to the final of the Adelaide International at the start of the season and won all her three Fed Cup singles matches too.
And her showing on clay has been equally impressive with a 51-24 career win-loss record so far.

Dodin Riding Her Luck
Dodin kicked off her campaign with a couple of wins during the qualifiers but she went out in the third round, as she lost to Nadia Podoroska in a thrilling three-setter.
Fortunately for her, Dodin was able to qualify for the main draw as a lucky loser following withdrawals but looked like she was on the verge of going out in the first round. Playing Tamara Zindansek, Dodin was a set down but came back to edge out her opponent 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to make it to the second round.
Having not had the best of clay court records even at the lower tier of competitions, a second round here in Palermo should be beyond what she would have expected. It would also be difficult for her to make it beyond that by the looks of things unless she can find herself a piece of good fortune against a far superior opponent.
