Aryna Sabalenka v Cori Gauff Head to Head

This will be the first time Sabalenka will face the much-spoken about Gauff at a competitive match.

Sabalenka Needs Three Sets on Resumption

Having played no tennis at this level in nearly six months, things were never expected to be an easy ride for Sabalenka, and that’s exactly how it turned out for her in her opener. Sabalenka raced off to a quick start by winning the first set 6-1 but Brengle found her bearings in the second, pushing it to a tie-breaker and then clinching it.

Sabalenka came back in the third to round off the win in around two and a half hours, before admitting while she could have done better than she did in the match, for a first encounter in so many matches, she performed reasonably well.

And that time on court should help Sabalenka get tuned up for her match against Gauff, who has fast risen up to the levels of a player to watch every time she takes to the court. That said, Sabalenka has the experience and the backing of seven WTA titles on hard courts coming into this match and that will count for a lot for the 22-year-old.

Gauff Quickly off The Blocks

Despite having played even lesser tennis than Sabalenka, Gauff was a straight-set winner in her opening round match against Caroline Dolehide. She won 7-5, 7-5 and in a post-match interview called it an A-level performance given she was returning to competitive tennis after having last played in January.

Gauff had gotten past Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka the last time she had stepped on to the court in a tournament, before she was toppled in the fourth round of the Australian Open. And the good news is Gauff is not putting any pressure on herself, an impressive, much-have quality in this highly competitive world.

She said:

“Obviously, I want to win, but I’m not going to put pressure on myself to win anything. I just try my best out there on the court every day.”

If she can continue having fun but at the same time putting in the hard yards as she has done so far, it would go a long way in developing her all-round career. As far as this match is concerned, Gauff can be expected to give Sabalenka a solid fight again, but the Belarus player herself isn’t short of those qualities.

Aryna Sabalenka v Cori Gauff Prediction & Tip

While Sabalenka is 1/2 to win this, Gauff will definitely have it in her to pick up a set at the very least. We expect this to be a very fighting match.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 10/11 (bet365)
