Eugenie Bouchard v Tamara Zidansek Head to Head

This will be their second meeting. The first match, which came at Wimbledon 2019, saw Zidansek register a thrilling, three-set victory over Bouchard in the first round. It needed the Slovenian 14 games in the final set to get past Bouchard.

Bouchard Looking to Push On

Not too many expected Bouchard to come through to the second round, let alone win with the kind of panache she showed in her opener against Veronika Kudermetova. Bouchard routed Kudermetova 6-0 in the first set, with the Russian not knowing what hit her.

By the time Kudermetova was able to get back into the encounter, Bouchard had established enough of a buffer and completed the straight-set victory. It was a stunning victory for someone who is ranked 330th in the world, failed to qualify for the Australian Open and lost in the opener at Newport Beach Open.

Bouchard is also coming off a 8-20 win-loss record in 2019, going on a 13-match losing streak that year too – and this was also the streak which included that Zindansek defeat we spoke about earlier, in Wimbledon.

Things are different by the looks of it right now.

Clay-Court Specialist Zidansek Looking for Quarterfinal

While Zindansek did not have the greatest season last year, she did manage to defend her WTA title at Bol. That was her second career title but apart from another final appearance at Nurnberg it didn’t help her elsewhere.

Nine of her 24 wins of the season came in those two tournaments, going 15-24 in the other competitions participated in. That said, Zidansek is a clay-court specialist with a 16-9 win-loss record on that surface last season and 43-8 across different tiers in 2018.

Zidansek is coming off a curious first round win though. She looked to have gotten off to a strong start, winning the opening set 6-3 but then collapsed in the second. And then, all of a sudden, Zindansek found her mojo and cruised through to the winning without dropping a game in the final set.

Eugenie Bouchard v Tamara Zidansek Prediction & Tip

Zidansek is 4/6 to make the quarterfinals and had it not been for a shocking straight-set opening round victory for Bouchard, it might have been even shorter odds for the Slovenian win. We still think Zidansek should go through but it could be a tough one, a three-setter again.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
