Anastasija Sevastova v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head

These two players have played each other thrice before this and Sevastova leads the head to head 2-1. The catch here is Sevastova’s wins came on clay while in their last meeting at the WTA Moscow last year on indoor hard courts, Mladenovic edged out her Latvian opponent to collect her first win over Sevastova.

Sevastova’s Poor Form Continues

It has been a highly forgettable season for Sevastova, despite her shock win over Serena Williams at the Fed Cup. Other than that victory, Sevastova has managed to win just one of her remaining seven matches on the regular circuit.

The season began with an opening defeat to Sofia Kenin at Brisbane before Donna Vekic got the better of her in the first round of the Adelaide International. Half-baked, Sevastova didn’t last too long in her opener at the Australian Open either.

She went down to Kenin yet again in the Fed Cup before that Serena victory but that was followed by another couple of defeats in opening rounds. At Dubai it was Marketa Vondrousova who crashed through her defences while in Doha, Anett Kontaveit gave her no chance.

Interestingly, Sevastova’s best showing of the year came in an exhibition tournament in Germany where she defeated Kiki Bertens, Elina Svitolina and Petra Kvitova to win the title but on her return to the circuit, lost 6-2, 6-2 to Irina Begu in the Prague Open first round.

Doubles Specialist Mladenovic Focussing on Singles

She was once a world number 10 in singles as well but Mladenovic has always given her preference to doubles play and that has, in a way, affected her performances in singles. Having said that, Mladenovic came back during the pandemic break and featured in three tournaments on hard court surfaces before the resumption of the season.

Mladenovic made the finals at the first two of these tournaments, losing both times to Fiona Ferro before retiring from her opening match at the third. On her return to WTA she played on the clays of Palermo, but was stunned in three sets after winning the first.

Earlier this year, Mladenovic’s best showing came at the Dubai where, as a qualifier she won three matches to make the main draw and won her opener before losing to Karolina Pliskova. Unfortunately, another second round defeat at Lyon is where her season had ended before its resumption.

Anastasija Sevastova v Kristina Mladenovic Prediction & Tip

This is a tough one to call. Both are similarly ranked players but more vitally, they are both struggling in singles play. We expect a tough battle that goes to the third set.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
