Garin Looking to Pick Up from Where He Left

The 24-year-old Chilean had a great start to the 2020 season. He won back to back title at Rio de Janeiro and Cordoba. During this run, he won 10 consecutive matches before he had to retire at the quarter-final stage at Santiago due to a leg injury. Although his success this season has come on the clay courts, he would be hoping to continue the momentum he had before the season was suspended.

Garin had his breakthrough season in 2019 where he began on the fringes of being a top 100 player to achieving his career-best rankings five times. He has a great chance to move up the rankings this week since he crashed out at the Cincinnati Open in the first round last year.

But he will have to improve his game massively since his record on the hard courts has been below par. This is also going to be his first match since the season resumed. It remains to be seen if he can adjust to the quicker pace of the game or not.

Bedene Coming off a Tough Qualifying Campaign

The 31-year-old Slovenian has had to come through the qualifying rounds to reach the main draw. He faced two tricky opponent sin Denis Kudla and Dennis Novak and looked comfortable against both of them. The world number 61 would be hoping to continue his run and once again break back into the top 50 rankings before the US Open.

Bedene had a decent 2019 campaign too especially the second half where he reached the quarter-finals at two events and reached the finals at Metz.

Although he hasn’t been able to win his maiden title of the career a similar run like he had at Viena last year where he started from the qualifiers to reach the last eight will do his confidence a world of good.

Cristian Garin v Aljaz Bedene Prediction & Tip

Garin had a brilliant start to the season and starts the match as the favourite. But his record on the hardcourts hasn’t been great. He also hasn’t played a competitive match since the season restarted may go against him. Bedene, on the other hand, is already battle-hardened from his qualifying rounds and may just cause an upset here.

Tip: Bedene to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
