Ons Jabeur v Victoria Azarenka Head to Head

Jabeur and Azarenka have never played each other before this in a competitive match.

Jabeur Improves to 20-6 This Year

It’s been that kind of a season for Jabeur. She has been in rampaging form, losing the odd match here and there but in general exhibiting the kind of form which had aided her move into the quarterfinal of the Australian Open earlier this season.

And it’s come on the back of a string of amazing wins, against top players.

Jabeur’s draw hasn’t been unkind, to say the least, but since losing the first set she played in the tournament in a match against Leylah Fernandez, the Tunisian has been excellent on court. Fernandez was brushed aside after that initial loss of the set and that was followed by straight set wins over Madison Keys and Christina McHale as well.

Keys, a defending champion here, was brushed aside 6-4, 6-1 before Jabeur strong-armed McHale 6-3, 6-0 to move into the last eight. She could face her first real test now.

Azarenka Makes it 7-0 against Cornet

Having lost four matches this season including a couple of them during the pandemic break, Azarenka’s run of three wins to make it to the quarterfinal has been brilliant. She hasn’t dropped a set so far, and defeated Donna Vekic, Caroline Garcia and Alize Cornet.

Against Cornet in the third round, Azarenka had gone in with a 6-0 win-loss record and ensured there was no respite for her opponent as she chalked up a seventh in just over two hours.

What’s interesting to note is despite Azarenka’s obviously excellent run in the competition so far, she has refused to term it as a dream run. Speaking to the official website after the match, she said:

“It’s been great. I don’t know about a ‘dream week,’. That’s a little overexciting to put in a statement, that it’s been my dream week.”

And that can only mean one thing. She is hungry for more.
