Novak Djokovic v Damir Dzumhur Head to Head

This will be their third meeting and Djokovic, expectedly has won both their previous two matches. In the first at the 2018 Paris Masters, Djokovic was leading 6-1, 2-1 before Dzumhur retired from it while the second came at the Qatar Open where Djokovic win 6-1, 6-2.

Djokovic on a 23-Match Winning Streak

There were various times during the Cincinnati Masters which was held in the lead-up to the US Open that Djokovic looked anything but invincible. Ricardas Berankis, in the first round, stretched him across the two sets, and then Roberto Bautista-Agut was serving for the match in the final set before losing their semifinal in three.

And then in the final, he lost the first set 6-1, and in the final set was a break down before defeating Milos Raonic in three sets.

Basically, in the end, he found a way to win each time, pushing his win-loss record to 23-0 this year. It started with a six-match streak at the ATP Cup and another seven matches at the Australian Open before the title wins in Dubai and Cincinnati Open.

Those wins have consisted of some big-ticket names too; Monfils, Medvedev, Nadal, Schwartzman, Raonic, Federer, Thiem and Tsitsipas have all been sent by the wayside in the process.

At some stage Djokovic’s run will come to an end but against a player ranked 107th in the world and after having shown the kind of form he has in recent times, it seems less likely if not impossible.

Dzumhur Without a Main Draw Win This Season

Once aspiring to be a top-20 player in the world, Dzumhur has fallen to outside the top 100 in the rankings and his lack of results this season have only added to those issues.

In the seven ATP competitions he ha played this year, Dzumhur is yet to win a main draw match. The couple of notable performances came at the Bendigo Challenger where he reached the quarterfinal and Davis Cup where he won both his singles matches. Not surprisingly, those wins came against very low-ranked opponents.

At his best, Dzumhur has recorded wins over Rafael Nadal and Tomas Berdych in 2016, and Stan Wawrinka and Alexander Zverev in 2017. Unfortunately those days seem long behind him and while he is only 28 and a career turnaround is an obvious possibility, it might not begin to happen against the world number one exhibiting the kind of form he has this season.

Novak Djokovic v Damir Dzumhur Prediction & Tip

At 1/150, these are the shortest odds one could have expected to get from a Djokovic win and it doesn’t come without a reason. The better odds come in the form of a straight-set win for Djokovic and even that is at 1/7 with bet365. Instead look at the games market.

Tip: Under 26.5 games in the match: 8/11 (bet365)
