Kostyuk, Up and Coming Teenager

Kostyuk had a highly successful career as a junior; she was ranked as high as two in the world, won the Australian Open in 2017, and the ITF Junior Masters title. She also won the US Open doubles that same year.

Since turning pro, she has been in six ITF finals, winning three of them, most recently in Cairo this year, when she thrashed the Spaniard Aliona Bolsova Zadionov in the final.

In terms of Grand Slams, her best result came in Melbourne in 2018 when she became the youngest player to make the main draw of the Australian Open since 1996. She made it through the first round, before she was beaten by compatriot Elina Svitolina.

However, she has failed to qualify for any of the Grand Slams since, so this match will be a relatively new experience for her. Prior to lockdown, her best result came in Lyon, where she came through two rounds of qualifying, only to go out in the first round.

She failed to qualify in Palermo, and, although she did make the main draw in Prague, again lost in the first-round. Kostyuk did not play the Cincinnati Open.

Kasatkina, the Former Russian Number One

Kasatkina was the number one Russian player just two years ago, but a loss of form has seen her drop down the rankings. As a junior, she was ranked as high as three in the world, and helped Russia reach the final of the Junior Fed Cup.

She reached seven ITF finals between January 2014 and September 2015, and won all of them, before turning her attention to the senior ITF tour.

She then reached four finals, including Indian Wells where she lost to Naomi Osaka, and won two of them, the China Open in 2017, and the prestigious Kremlin Cup a year later.

That same year, she reached the quarter-finals in both Paris and Wimbledon, before losing to Sloane Stephens and Angelique Kerber, respectively. Her best run in New York had come a year earlier when she reached the third round.

However, her poor form continued into 2020, with a series of first-round defeats in Auckland, Melbourne and St. Petersburg, a failure to qualify in Dubai, and another first-round loss in Doha. She did reach the third-round in Lyon though.

She was beaten first time out in Palermo, and, although she did make it through qualifying to the main draw in Cincinnati, Kasatkina was then beaten by Anett Kontaveit.

Daria Kasatkina v Marta Kostyuk Prediction & Tip

Although the lower ranked of the pair, Kostyuk is the favourite to win this match, as a player tipped to be a future star of the sport. It may go to three sets though, as neither woman is in good form at the moment.

Tip: Kostyuk to win in three sets: 7/2 (bet365)
