Taylor Townsend v Sachia Vickery Head to Head
This has been some rivalry between two friends, separated by just a year in age. Vickery leads 5-4 in overall meetings which includes exhibition tournaments and the ITF circuit, and at the WTA circuit, it’s 2-1 in her favour.
Interestingly, they have played thrice this year at the Tennis Point Series and Vickery leads 2-1 here too.

Townsend has been involved in the Tennis Point Series competition during the pandemic break, having played 16 singles matches during that time. However, her best performance this season came at the WTA Newport Beach where she made it to the semifinal before losing to Stefanie Voegele.
Unfortunately for Townsend, her showing around that semifinal appearance hasn’t been her best. A first round exit at the Auckland Open, another at the Indian Wells $125k after getting an opening bye and a second round exit at the Australian Open have been her results this year before the pandemic break.
And if one thought the string of matches during the break would have helped her overcome her rustiness, Townsend ended up with one of her worst performances of the season at the Cincinnati Open. Featuring in the qualifiers, she was sent packing by Astra Sharma 6-2, 6-0, leaving her without too much of practice heading into the US Open.

Vickery Hasn’t Won a Single Main Draw Match This Year
Sure, Vickery has played in multiple ITF competitions and even reached the final of one of them at the Burnie ITF but when it comes to WTA tournaments, she is yet to win a single match. There was a participation in the Australian Open qualifiers, where she won a couple of rounds but lost in the third round.
And there was also a first round win at the Indian Wells $125k competition before she lost to Katerina Siniakova in the second.
This is after a season where she barely won anything either, which was a surprise after having reached the semifinal at the Auckland Open and Monterrey Open in 2018.
Vickery hasn’t made it past the second round at the US Open before this and given her recent showing and record, it might get tough for her to carve out a win here either.
