Dusan Lajovic v Adrian Mannarino Head to Head

These two players have played each other three times before, with the Serbian world no.25 leading the series 2-1. However, it is the French veteran who won the last meeting at the Kremlin Cup last year in straight sets. This will be their first meeting on clay.

Can Lajovic Win A Second Career Title?

It was always going to be a big ask for Dusan Lajovic to repeat the thrills of his terrific 2019 season. And with COVID-19 sweeping nearly half of the tennis calendar, the Serbian no.2 missed the chance to defend his title in Umag.

Since turning pro in 2005, Lajovic achieved a career milestone last year when he won the Croatia Open – his maiden ATP title – dropping one set all week. The 30-year-old had already broken new ground a few months earlier before his success at the Plava Laguna. He reached his first Masters 1000 final in Monte Carlo in somewhat stunning fashion.

Lajovic took out the likes of David Goffin, Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev at the Principality before falling to Fognini in the final. He would avenge that loss by beating the Italian at the French Open that same summer.

The Belgrade native has an 11-10 record for the season –  his major highlight coming in January. Lajovic along with countryman Djokovic were instrumental in steering Team Serbia to win the inaugural ATP Cup. He won four out of his five singles rubbers.

Lajovic arrives in Hamburg on the back of a respectable third round showing at the Italian Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal.

Mannarino Looking For Improved Performance on Clay

For Adrian Mannarino, 2019 was a mixed year for a number of reasons. The Frenchman saw his ranking plummet to its lowest point in three years during the early part of last year (dropping as low as no.69), but remarkably, he managed to snap a six-match losing streak in ATP tour finals, as he finally captured his maiden ATP title in Hertogenbosch during the grass court season.

The left-hander then reached two more finals in Zhuhai and Moscow respectively, and finishing the year comfortably in the world’s top-50 (at no.43 in the rankings).

Mannarino barely won any matches at the start of the 2020 season, making a a first round exit in five of the seven tournaments he played between Doha and Acapulco. He would drop down the ladder and competed at the Monterrey Challenger where he won his 14th career title on the Challenger tour, beating Aleksandar Vukic in the final.

The 32-year-old lost in the first round of the Italian Open to Milos Raonic last week.

Lajovic v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

On clay Lajovic certainly has the edge. All three of their previous meetings have had at least one tiebreak set which means both players will have very limited opportunities to break each other’s serve. Whilst we expect the Serbian to navigate his way, we expect the overs market to hit in this one.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
