David Goffin v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

Jannik Sinner won the pair’s only meeting to date at the Rotterdam championships this year.

Goffin Searching For Rhythm As He Goes To Paris

David Goffin’s preparation for the forthcoming French Open has not been ideal, losing in the first round of the Rome Masters to Marin Cilic. It will be interesting to see if the Belgian can bounce back swiftly and produce the sort of performances he displayed during the New York  bubble.

It is worth remembering Goffin was put to the sword early on at the Cincinnati Masters by Jan-Lennard Struff, but he played with distinction at the US Open where he reached the second week for the fourth straight year, losing in the fourth round to Denis Shapovalov.

Goffin remains one of those players who is most comfortable when he finds his rhythm in matches. What he lacks in power, he more than makes up with his consistency and speed.

Perhaps his lack of pace on serve has hold him back from ever reaching the business end at the big tournaments, but there is no doubt he works tirelessly from the baseline with his ability to trade groundstrokes with pretty much anyone.

Goffin might have little time to adjust to the European clay-courts and a dangerous first round looms against the talented Italian Jannik Sinner.

Sinner Set For French Open Debut

There is a lot to like from Jannik Sinner and the current crop of Italian tennis players including fellow teenager Lorenzo Musetti who took everyone by surprise at the Italian Open last week. Ultimately Sinner, like Musetti, both failed in their bid to become the first Italian teenager to reach the quarterfinals in Rome.

Sinner though remains the most accomplished of the lot having captured three Challenger titles and the Next Gen ATP Finals title in Milan last year. He has also recorded some big scalps on the main tour, with his most recent coming at Foro Italico in his three-set win over Stefanos Tsitstipas – his second career top-10 win.

It seems a change of surface has brought a change in fortunes for the 19-year-old who failed to win a match during the New York bubble. He did lead Karen Khachanov by two-sets-to-love at the US Open, but his physical condition began to deteriorate and the Russian eventually wore him down over five sets. It was a learning experience for the highly-talented Italian who has put a lot of work in in his fitness regime under coach Riccardo Piatti.

Sinner is 3-2 for the season on the European clay and will make his main draw debut at the French Open.

Goffin v Sinner Prediction and Tip

If there was one unseeded player Goffin would have completely wanted to avoid right now, it would be that of Jannik Sinner. The odds are shortening for the Italian who has shown in recent weeks of just how much damage he can inflict with his ferocious power. There is certainly huge value in him springing an upset here.

Tip: Sinner to win: 1/1 (bet365)
