Gael Monfils v Alexander Bublik Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP tour. Not only are both skilled players, but both also have charismatic personalities to go with it.

Rusty Monfils Looking For Wins
After a strong 2019 that saw him return to the top 10 in the ATP rankings, 2020 was off to an excellent start for Gael Monfils. After making the round of 16 at the Australian Open, where he was defeated by runner-up Dominic Thiem, it was a fantastic February for the Frenchman Gael Monfils.
The Frenchman won back-to-back titles at Montpellier and Rotterdam and looked in sublime touch through the month of February. At the ATP 500 in Dubai, he continued his strong run of form and was up a set and had match points in the second against Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, on the verge of an unprecedented, but well deserved win.
However, the relentless Novak Djokovic never gives up, and nerves got the better of Monfils, and the world number one from Serbia went on to win in three sets.
Monfils has historically been comfortable on clay, and will look to rekindle the form that took him to the French Open semi-finals in 2008. His post Covid hiatus return to clay has been sub-optimal with early round losses in both Rome and Hamburg to little known Dominik Koepfer and Yannick Hanfmann respectively.
The Frenchman will be hoping for a strong start to his home slam, against a none too easy first round opponent.

Bublik Settling Down On Clay
Despite having been on the tour for a relatively short period of time, Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan has already made a mark. Last season, Bublik made the finals of the Newport Hall of Fame Championships on grass and the ATP 250 Chengdu Open.
2020 was off to an indifferent start for the Kazakh, with early round losses at Adelaide, the Australian Open, Montpellier and Rotterdam. Bublik had a good outing at Marseille where he was a semi-finalist, defeating Benoit Paire and Denis Shapovalov, before losing the semi-finals to Tsitsipas. He had another good run in Dubai, before again losing to eventual finalist Tsitsipas.
Bublik’s return to clay has got progressively better and he followed disappointing early round losses at Kitzbuhel and Rome, with a good run at Hamburg where he defeated players of the caliber of Felix Auger-Aliassime en route the final eight before being defeated by clay court specialist Cristain Garin.
The Kazakh will make for a tricky opening round opponent for Frenchman Monfils.
Monfils v Bublik Prediction and Tip
Not as easy opener for Monfils, given both his recent run of form and the unpredictable and uncanny Bublik. The Frenchman will look to get into his groove early and if he does, he should prevail. Expect Monfils to win in four sets.
Tip: Monfils to win in four sets: 10/3 (bet365)
