First up on Philippe-Chatrier will be the seventh seeded Petra Kvitova who kick-starts her French Open this year with struggling Frenchwoman Oceane Dodin.

This will be followed by the third seeded, US Open winner Marin Cilic, who comes into this year’s Roland-Garros without a clay court tournament under his belt. That said, he did participate in a few exhibition tournaments during the pandemic break, and he takes on former Grand Slam winner Marin Cilic in what could be a tricky opener.

Serena Williams, seeded sixth this year and gunning for her 24th major win, faces fellow American Kristie Ahn in her opening round match, the second time the two of them would be meeting in a matter of a few weeks. Should be an easy one for the former world number one.

Nadal’s opening round match is the last on Philippe-Chatrier, as he begins with what should be a straightforward opponent in the form of Egor Gerasimov.

Action at the Suzanne-Lenglen court will have the fifth seeded Kiki Bertens play Katarina Zavatska before the third seeded Elina Svitolina faces Varvara Gracheva in her opener. Svitolina, who hadn’t played all of August and resumed her season with the Italian Open, went on to lift the title at Strasbourg last week and comes into this tournament as one of the dark horses.

That match will be followed by the Gael Monfils-Alexander Bublik encounter, one that could get entertaining given the two players involved before the final match on court has Daniil Medvedev taking on Marton Fucsovics.

Fabio Fognini, Garbine Muguruza, Karen Khachanov, Angelique Kerber, Marketa Vondrousova and Tsvetana Pironkova will be some of the other players in action today.

Action begins at 11 am local time (10 am BST or 5 am Eastern Time). Get all the latest, match by match French Open 2020 previews and predictions here.
