Juan Ignacio Londero v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the two 27-year-olds at the top level. Londero defeated Ceccinato in the Round of 32 at the Cordoba Open earlier this year.

Apart from that February meeting which the Argentine won in straight sets, the two have met thrice in Italy (once in a qualifying event and twice at Challenger and Futures level), with Cecchinato winning all three clay court matches.

Londero Outlasts Delbonis

Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero defeated compatriot Federico Delbonis in the first round of the French Open, in what turned out to be the longest match on the first day of this year’s Paris Slam.

Londero, ranked 69th in the world, started off well taking the first two sets, but the tables turned in the next two, with the left-handed Delbonis staging a comeback and forcing the decider.

With neither ready to give-up, it took 26 games in the final set to finally separate the two, with Londero winning the bruising battle 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), 2-6, 1-6, 14-12 in four hours and 54 minutes.

A clay-court specialist, Londero, who won the Cordoba Open last year despite entering the tournament without winning a tour-level match, is looking to emulate his 2019 exploits at Roland Garros, when he reached the fourth round of the tournament on his main draw debut. But last year, he needed just three sets to dispatch Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round.

And so he was relatively fresh for his next round against Richard Gasquet, which the Argentine won in four before needing to hold off Frenchman Corentin Moutet in a five-set third round encounter. His run eventually came to an end after he was beaten by Rafael Nadal in the Round of 16.

A quarterfinalist at the Cordoba Open and a semifinalist at the Argentina Open earlier this year, Londero will be hoping to build on the good start in Paris but it will all depend on how quickly he recovers from the draining first round victory.

Cecchinato Eases Past De Minaur

2018 French Open semifinalist Marco Cecchinato got off to a good start in Paris on Sunday, winning his first round match against 25th seed Australian Alex de Minaur in straight sets.

The match, which witnessed an engaging first set tie-breaker, lasted 2 hours and 51 minutes, before the Italian advanced with a 7-6 (11-9), 6-4, 6-0 win.

Cecchinato, who beat Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis, France’s Constant Lestienne and Belgian Kimmer Coppejans in the three qualifiers at Roland Garros, is yet to drop a set in Paris this year and will be hoping to carry that form in the second round against Londero.

A solid player on clay, Cecchinato is a winner of three ATP 250 series events, but this year, he hasn’t been in the greatest of forms having reached the final of just one Challenger event in Uruguay.

But four wins on the trot will give the World No. 110 a lot of confidence in his second round match.

Londero v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip

This should be another closely fought match. Considering Cecchinato’s 2018 experience, his current form in Paris and the stamina sapping match that Londero played in the first round, the Italian seems to have a slight edge in this matchup. Expect him to win in 4.

Tip: Cecchinato to win in four sets: 11/4 (bet365)
