Elina Svitolina v Renata Zarazúa Head to Head
This will be the first time in her career that Svitolina faces Zarazúa in a competitive encounter.

Having won the Strasbourg Open last week, Svitolina had come into the French Open with a lot of confidence under her belt but dished out a performance she might not be too pleased with. And it might be to do with the conditions; those in Paris have been far different from what she faced in Strasbourg last week despite the same surface.
It didn’t begin that badly for the Ukrainian though.
Svitolina looked to be in imperious touch as she raced off to a 4-0 lead before her opponent Varvara Gracheva finally held on for her first game. From there on started a series of service games neither player were too comfortable with and struggled to hold.
In fact, a shocking nine of the next 10 service games had breaks of serve. That one game in which Gracheva did hold on to her serve helped her see the face of a tie-breaker – remember she was 0-4 down – but Svitolina clinched it 7-2.
Things turned for the worse for Svitolina in the second set when she fell 2-4 down but a break-back to level the set at 4-4 and then a break again at 5-4 ensured a straight-set but thought-provoking win for Svitolina.
Svitolina will probably want to shrug off her performance as one of those things that happen when you are adjusting to such dramatically different conditions but she will want to improve rather quickly.

Qualifier Zarazúa Beats French Wildcard
Elsa Jacquemot is all of 17 years of age and ranked 525th in the world, and was playing in her first Grand Slam main draw. And Zarazua took full toll of the situation, registering a straightforward 6-1, 6-2 victory over her French Open, her first ever at a Grand Slam with the Mexican having never made the main draw before this.
In a match lasting just over an hour, Zarazua broke her opponent five times, facing just a single break-point in return (where she got broken), and hit 23 winners to 12 unforced errors. The level of competition wasn’t quite there for the Mexican, with Jacquemot delivering just 14 winners and getting hit by 28 unforced errors.
It wouldn’t get easier than this in the rest of the tournament for Zarazua, who had earlier qualified for the main draw with three successive qualifying victories. Two of them were in straight sets, after having featured in the Prague Open and an ITF competition also held in the same city.
She made the fourth round at the Prague Open and was a losing finalist in the latter thereby helping her gain valuable points. Whether she can get more out of this situation will depend on how Svitolina adjusts to the conditions because at her very best, the Ukrainian shouldn’t have too much trouble here.
Svitolina v Zarazúa Prediction and Tip
It should be a way more straightforward win for Svitolina than it was for her in round one given she would be slightly more prepared for them. Straight-setter coming her way.
