This will be the first-ever meeting between the pair.

Maria Tig Almost Gave Away the Advantage

Even though the Romanian won her first round match in straight sets, lapses in concentration could have cost her a lot more.

Maria Tig was 5-1 up in the first set and 3-1 up in the second but ended up getting broken multiple times from that point onwards. In the end her opponent, Stefanie Voegele could not make the full use of her opportunities and lost the match 7-5, 7-5 but if Maria Tig wants to back herself to make it to the second week of the tournament, she will have to stop giving similar chances to her opponents going forward.

Regardless of her struggles to close out the match easily, the 26-year-old is currently on a six-match winning streak. She won the Istanbul WTA just prior to coming here where she dropped only one set. Maria Tig had beaten Eugenie Bouchard in that final.

In the first half of this year, the Romanian had reached two ITF Challenger Finals at Canberra and Nonthaburi. She also made a semi-final appearance at Hua Tin WTA but after the season restarted, she could not find her form and rhythm quickly enough. She lost four out of five matches since the start of August, a run which was finally ended in Istanbul.

Confidence Boosting Win for McHale

For the 28-year-old American, her first-round win over world number 26 Karolina Muchova could not have come at a better time. McHale had won only one out of her previous five matches, only winning two sets along the way.

And this run of poor results took away the momentum she would have had from a round of 16 appearance from the US Open. But against Muchova, she put out a near-perfect display to shock her higher-ranked opponent.

She took the control of the first set quickly after breaking Muchova twice but then in the second set, she had to come back from behind. At one point in the second set, Muchova was ahead 4-2 and had a game point as well. But the American came back strongly to not only save the game but also went on to win the set.

Her overall record on clay courts is poor and her best-ever showing at this tournament has been the third round appearance she made in 2012. But on the other nine occasions when she has participated in Paris, she has failed to reach beyond the opening round.

Patricia Maria Tig v Christina McHale Prediction and Tip

Maria Tig will be favourite to go through to the third round. She loves playing on this surface and is in excellent form at the moment. McHale will be hoping to cause another upset but the Romanian should prevail in the end.

Tip: Maria Tig to win in three sets: 10/3 (bet365)
