Novak Djokovic v Daniel Galan Head to Head

There have been no previous meetings between Djokovic and Galan before this.

Djokovic Steamrolls Berankis Again

Ricardas Berankis had given a solid account of himself the last time he had taken on Djokovic – it was a match last month at the Cincinnati Masters, and the world number one had needed a tie-breaker in the first set to forge ahead.

This time around Djokovic needed no such help. He registered a crushing defeat over Berankis, dropping a mere five games in the process of getting to the third round. Interestingly enough, Djokovic’s first round victory over Mikael Ymer was also on similar lines with the world number losing just five games.

Djokovic has continued to look imperious in the tournament. In fact by evidence from these two matches, his tennis has looked sharper than at the Cincinnati Masters and US Open and definitely way better than his struggles at the Rome Masters.

And that is a scary thought for most oppositions because here’s a surface Djokovic doesn’t enjoy as much as the others and yet, his game has only improved drastically from those previous three tournaments.

There’s obviously always that Rafael Nadal factor at a later stage but the manner in which he’s going so far, it doesn’t look likely too many other tennis players posses the game to challenge him.

Galan Tames Tennys in Three-Setter

Not too many thought Galan was the favourite going into his second round match against Tennys Sandgren let alone for him to win it in straight sets. We sure didn’t.

But that’s how things panned out as Galan, a lucky loser who got a chance only after the withdrawal of Kyle Edmund, crushed his American opponent’s hopes with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 win in the second round. The match lasted all of an hour and 48 minutes, and saw Galan take full toll of Tennys’ poor second serve (only 30% points won) and extraordinarily high number of unforced errors (52) in the match.

Galan broke his opponent twice in each set, and didn’t concede a single break point in either of the first two sets. He was broken once in the third set with two breaks of his own, there was no looking back for Galan, who came through with that much ease.

In the opening round, Galan had earlier defeated Cameron Norrie in a five-setter.

Djokovic v Galan Prediction and Tip

Djokovic is 2/11 to win this in straight sets and there’s not much to stop him from doing that against a player in his maiden round three of any Grand Slam.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 2/11 (bet365)
