Laslo Djere v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between Djere and Musetti at any level.

Djere Continues to Make Short Work

Three matches played in this tournament and Djere is yet to drop a set. While his quarterfinal opponent Jiri Vesely was never expected to give him too much of a fight, for Djere to clinch the match 6-4, 6-4 following a couple of other solid performances shows where the Serb stands in terms of his own game.

All it needed for Djere was two breaks of serve in the match, one in each set, and exactly at the same time. On both occasions it came in the fifth game of the set, with Djere getting just one break-point apiece and it resulted in decisive moments both times.

Vesely, as hard as he tried, couldn’t get close to breaking his opponent, with Djere serving out the first set to love and the match to 15.

Earlier in the second round, Djere had caused the biggest upset of the tournament when he sent out the second seeded and fellow Serb Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 7-5. This was after he had breezed past India’s Sumit Nagal 6-3, 6-1 in round one.

By the looks of how things have gone in the tournament so far, Djere’s biggest test could come in the semifinal. Not because he’s up against a very high ranked player – no, his opponent is 143rd in the world – but thanks to the meteoric rise shown by him this year.

Musetti Does the Same as Djere

If Djere hasn’t dropped a set all tournament so far, even Musetti hasn’t and to go with that, he has lost just nine games over the last couple of rounds. The Italian had earlier been slightly slow off the blocks when he needed a 7-6, 7-5 win to get past Pablo Cuevas in the first round but since then it has been all plain sailing for Musetti.

Yannick Hanfmann might not have been a favourite in their quarterfinal but having beaten Musetti as recently as two months ago on clay, there was always that chance of it being a tussle. This time around, however, Musetti gave his German opponent no chance.

The difference between then and this match was Musetti went off to a flier here.

He broke Hanfmann in the first and the third game of the opening set, and while he faced a break-point in a longish fourth game, Musetti won that to take a 4-0 lead.

And when Hanfmann dished out that same dose to Musetti in the second set, i.e. go 4-0 up, the Italian found a way to wriggle out of that situation. So much so, he won six games in a row including three successive breaks to complete a facile win over his opponent ranked about 40 places above him.

Djere v Musetti Prediction and Tip

This is one of the toughest matches to call given how closely-matched these two players are. Both have won all their matches in straight sets, and have looked quite confident. Musetti, interestingly, starts off a favourite but we think it will go right down to the wire with both players winning a set apiece.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
