Barbora Krejcikova v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between Krejcikova and Martincova, and very interestingly, both came on indoor hard court surfaces. Martincova won both, first at the qualifiers of the St. Petersburg Open and the second at the Quebec Open, both in 2016.

French Open Exploits Take Krejcikova to Career-Best

Not too many would have expected Krejcikova to make it as far as the fourth round of the French Open wins over Barbora Strycova and Tsvetana Pironkova helped her achieve that and with it, a career-best ranking of 85th in the world.

Earlier, Krejcikova had won two clay court competitions at the lower circuit this year, but it was always going to be curious to see her make that switch from clay where she has played majority of her matches to indoor hard courts.

Her performance in the qualifiers showed the kind of spark she would have been hoping for after a near-career-changing performance at Roland-Garros. She shocked Kaja Juvan and Jil Tiechmann, the latter having started out at 2/3 to win that match, to make it to the main draw here.

She will have to rewrite history in order to progress though, having never beaten her opponent before this.

Martincova Stuns a Couple Too

Just like her opponent, Martincova too is coming off a couple of qualifying wins including one against USA’s Bernarda Pera in the opener. Pera was a minor favourite in that one but her Czech opponent scraped through in three sets.

And then in the second round, Martincova was a straight-set winner over Paula Badosa.

Martincova had played at the St. Petersburg Open on indoor hard court, earlier this season and made the second round, having done the same as a qualifier last season too. This Czech has featured in a lot of matches on this surface too, across qualifiers and tiers – between 2018 and 2019, she has played 41 matches indoors.

She had earlier made it to the semifinal at the Istanbul Cup, again as a qualifier, but to give a context to that showing, Martincova has played in 11 tournaments at the WTA level this season and won a round in two other than that one in Turkey.

Can she take advantage of playing a fellow qualifier?

Krejcikova v Martincova Prediction and Tip
