Aryna Sabalenka v Cori Gauff Head to Head
This is the second meeting between Sabalenka and Gauff. Their first came earlier this year at the first tournament which was played after the pandemic break, in Lexington, with Gauff needing three sets to surprise her opponent and move to the quarterfinals.

Sabalenka Returns to Indoor Hard Court
It is a surface where Sabalenka had won the third of her titles last season, defeating Maria Sakkari, Elise Mertens, Karolina Muchova and Kiki Bertens at the WTA Elite Trophy to pouch the tournament. She now returns to play her first match on it, having got a first round bye here.
That title, incidentally, was her maiden one on indoor hard court but then again, she hasn’t played too many on it. This year, for instance, Sabalenka is yet to play one.
That said, Sabalenka has had a brilliant hard court career, with six of her seven titles having come outdoors. She looked to convert that into something of note on clay as well, but barring a semifinal at the Strasbourg Open where she lost to Elina Svitolina, there haven’t been too many of those to wave.
Sabalenka enters this competition on the back of a third round exit at the French Open where she went down in three sets to Ons Jabeur. Can she now get back to her best against the highly-talented teenager?

Gauff Shrugs off String of Poor Results
Since making it to the semifinal at the Lexington Open, the same tournament where she had beaten Sabalenka, Gauff has gone into bit of a rut here. Two of her next four tournament appearances have resulted in opening losses while at the other two, she has won and lost one apiece.
Defeats on the hard courts of New York – for the Western & Southern Open and the US Open – would have been a deeper concern, but then again she had been up against tricky opponents. Having to then qualify to feature at this competition in Ostrava, Gauff looks to have found her original rhythm.
She started off with a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Jana Ceplova, before defeating Irina Camelia-Begu 6-4, 6-4 in the second qualifying round. And in the main draw, Gauff registered a 7-5, 6-4 win over Katerina Siniakova.
In a first set that saw both players struggle to hold serves, Gauff was broken to love at 4-4 but came back to crush Siniakova’s hopes as she first levelled things up at 5-5 before breaking her opponent at 6-5.
It was way better for both players in the second when matters went on serve till the ninth game but for the second time in the match, Siniakova lost her nerve and her serve at the most decisive point in the set.
Gauff will want to continue with that same kind of form against Sabalenka.
Sabalenka v Gauff Prediction and Tip
There’s not much to choose between these two players with Gauff starting out at 10/11 and Sabalenka at 4/5. We give Gauff the edge here.
Tip: Gauff to win: 10/11 (bet365)
