Victoria Azarenka v Maria Sakkari Head to Head
This will be the first time meeting between Azarenka and Sakkari.

Mertens No Match for Azarenka
We had predicted a three-setter this time knowing Azarenka would be a favourite against Elise Mertens given the latter’s record in recent times. Mertens has been having deep runs into competitions, dispatching most opponents with the kind of clinical tennis you want when you are moving up the rankings but against the top players, the Dutchwoman had been found wanting.
What one probably didn’t expect is for Azarenka to dispatch her in the manner that she did.
In a match lasting an hour and 44 minutes, Azarenka might not have been the quickest off the blocks after getting broken in the very first game but that was the last time she fell behind. In the eighth game, the match-levelling break took her to 4-4 before Azarenka broke yet again to wrap up the set.
And it didn’t even last that long in the second. After Mertens had levelled things off at 1-1 in the second set, she didn’t win a single game and crashed out 6-4, 6-1.
This win follows her second round victory over Barbora Krejcikova after getting a first round bye.

Sakkari Deals with Jabeur Threat
Down a set after getting broken in the sixth game of the opening set, Sakkari looked to be headed home when Jabeur broke her in the very first game of the second set as well. Sakkari soon fell 3-1 down with a desperate need for a break of serve that had eluded her all match.
That turnaround came in the sixth game of the second set and from there on, Sakkari went on a breaking rampage. She made it two breaks in a row to level the match before claiming two more successive breaks to take a 4-0 lead in the final set.
While Jabeur managed to final stall the breaking spree, she failed to stay in the match while serving at 1-5, taking the Greek number one to her second semifinal of the season.
Sakkari, who had earlier defeated Kristyna Pliskova and surprised Elina Svitolina in the first two rounds of the competition, has made it as far as this only once before this season – a semifinal at the St. Petersburg, which was also on indoor hard courts.
Can the one-time WTA winner now make it to her first final this season?
Azarenka v Mertens Prediction and Tip
We are looking at a tight match here with Azarenka starting out as a favourite. Expecting Sakkari to win a set at the very least.
Tip: Sakkari to win a set – Yes: 4/6 (bet365)
