Dan Evans v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head
These two players have never met at tour level before this. Their previous two meetings incidentally came at the Loughborough Challenger in 2011 and 2012. Bedene won the first meeting in straight sets, with Evans taking the second in three sets.

Opportunity Missed For Evans in Antwerp
Dan Evans’ hopes of becoming the third straight British champion at the European Open in Antwerp came to an end in quite dramatic circumstances.
Evans, who had saved a match point in beating Russia’s Karen Khachanov in an ill-tempered quarterfinal, was given a dose of his own medicine in the last four against Ugo Humbert.
The man from Birmingham squandered four match points, one of which was an untimely double fault in second set tiebreak. Evans succumbed to his 12th defeat of the season, but it has been a season of immense progress on the ATP tour.
The 30-year-old peaked at no.28 in the world rankings after reaching the semifinals of the Dubai Championships earlier this year, and while chances of winning his first ATP tour title waning, he still remains of one of the most dangerous floaters especially when playing him right off the bat.
Evans will be in action in both singles and doubles in Vienna, but he will have to do without the services of his now former coach Mark Hilton who is set to rejoin British tennis’ governing body, the Lawn Tennis Association LTA.

Bedene Thrives in Vienna
If Aljaz Bedene is looking to find solace from avoiding another first round defeat, then he needs to look no further than his three previous visits to Vienna.
Bedene is a two-time quarterfinalist in Austria’s capital, and hasn’t lost in the first round at this event. That puts him in a brilliant position to mastermind another deep run this week on a surface where he hasn’t had much success in his career.
Bedene who has fully recovered from an ankle injury that brought his French Open campaign to a premature end in third round, played competitively against Milos Raonic in St. Petersburg a week ago. He dropped serve only once in a tight 6-3 7-6 defeat.
Currently sitting at no.53 in the world rankings, the Slovenian is bidding to re-enter the world’s top-50 once again, and he is not far off from his career high ranking of no.43 attained in February 2018.
Evans v Bedene Prediction and Tip
Evans’ craftiness should be too much to handle for Bedene. But it will be a test of Evans’ mental and physical abilities after investing three hours in his last outing against Humbert. Expect Bedene to make this more competitive than what the odds suggest.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
