Stan Wawrinka v Dan Evans Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between Wawrinka and Evans and the Swiss has won all four. They met as recently as the St. Petersburg Open two weeks ago and Wawrinka needed to overcome a set deficit to come through and make it to the second round.

Wawrinka Winless in Vienna
It was a stunning first round defeat for Stan Wawrinka who started that opener at 1/4 against Cristian Garin but fell to a three-set defeat.
Having entered the Vienna Open on the back of back to back struggling wins at the St. Petersburg Open – including the one against Evans – Wawrinka was sent out in the quarterfinal by Denis Shapovalov. And even before that, the third round is all he managed to get to at the French Open as well.
In fact, in what has been a rather curious year for most, Wawrinka has won more than two matches in an ATP tournament just once – at the Australian Open in what was the second tournament the Swiss played. Since then while he has been picky about where he’s played and won a Challenger in Prague, the results haven’t quite come at the highest level.
The Paris Masters represents Wawrinka’s last chance to get a move on but his opponent here won’t be filling in the numbers given his more recent form. Can Wawrinka conjure up enough motivation and bring out his best?

Evans Exits in Vienna Semifinal
As contrasts in form go, Evans has seen the best and the worst of it since the resumption of tennis following the pandemic break.
In the six tournaments he played since his return to the sport, Evans won just two matches. Both were opening round wins at the Cincinnati Open and US Open and those were followed by four successive first round defeats at the Rome Masters, Hamburg Open, French Open and St. Petersburg Open.
A participation in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown competition later, things looked to have changed for Evans. He first helped himself to the semifinal of the Antwerp Open by beating Frances Tiafoe and Karen Khachanov and then repeated the dose at Vienna just before this tournament.
Evans rode past Aljaz Bedene and Jurij Rodionov in the first two rounds in Vienna before stunning Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinal. A straight-set loss to Lorenzo Sonego in the semifinal despite being 1/2 to win the match would have been off-putting but it has got Evans back on track for now.
And while he is 0-4 on head to head against Wawrinka, Evans would feel confident he isn’t too far from registering a win.
Wawrinka v Evans Prediction and Tip
Wawrinka is 1/2 to win this while Evans starts off 6/4 to win this and we reckon it wouldn’t be as much of a gap as that between the two. Even contest that could go to a third set for us.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
