Corentin Moutet v Salvatore Caruso Head to Head
Two previous meetings, both on clay, have resulted in one apiece for the two players. The first match came at the Estoril Open in 2018, a qualifier which the 74th-ranked Moutet won in three sets before Caruso levelled it off at 1-1 in Umag last year. Both these matches had come on clay.

Moutet 0-2 Indoors This Year
Having performed reasonably well on hard court surfaces this season, Moutet is yet to win a match indoors. Both his opening round matches, the first at Antwerp and then one at the Astana Open, resulted in defeats at the hands of Lloyd Harris and Frances Tiafoe respectively.
Which is why things could get interesting when he faces an opponent ranked just five places below him.
Moutet looked to have gotten off on the right foot when he made it to the third round at the US Open in what was his first tournament after the return from the pandemic break. Since then, however, the 74th-ranked Frenchman has won just one main draw match and that had come on clay.
Having begun 2019 ranked 152nd in the world, Moutet has shown a steady rise in his performances and in turn, his ranking but he would hope for as strong an end to the season as he had begun it when he made the final of the Qatar Open as a qualifier.

Caruso on a Rise Too
While Moutet is a youngster showing steady progress in his tennis career, Caruso is a 27-year-old who has been around for a while but never broken into the top 70 of the rankings. At the moment though, he is ranked 79th in the world which is two places off his best ever and that’s thanks to his solid returns since the break for pandemic.
For instance, at the US Open, Caruso made it to the third round where he lost to Andrey Rublev. Similarly, he was a losing finalist at the Parma Challenger, before going down to Frances Tiafoe and he later qualified for the Antwerp Open but lost in the opening round to Dan Evans.
The Italian crashed out in the second round of the qualifiers here against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (who faces Karen Khachanov in round one) but not only has he qualified as a lucky loser but also faces an opponent who himself is ranked in a similar vicinity as him.
Can Caruso get lucky again?
Moutet v Caruso Prediction and Tip
There isn’t much to choose between these two with Moutet a slight favourite at 4/5 while Caruso starting out at 10/11. We will go with the match to see three sets.
Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
