Daniil Medvedev  v Alexander Zverev Head to Head

This will be the seventh meeting between the two players with Zverev leading the head-to-head 5-1. Over the last two matches, both of which came in 2019, it’s 1-1 on head to head which includes a win in the final of the Shanghai Masters last year for Medvedev.

Medvedev Improves after Lacklustre Post-US Open Form

The Russian, and world number five entered this tournament on the back of some horrendous showings over the past four tournaments. Having won seven ATP titles over the past couple of years, Medvedev was without a final appearance this year.

Till the Paris Masters that is.

After a first round bye here, Medvedev was benefitted from a Kevin Anderson withdrawal in the second and then struggled through to a three-set win over Alex De Minaur in the third.

It was against Diego Schwartzman in the last eight Medvedev finally found the kind of touch that had driven him to number four in the rankings, winning it 6-3, 6-1. And while he was stretched slightly by the hard-serving Milos Raonic in his previous round, the Russian won the big points to complete a 6-4, 7-6 win.

The only break of the first set came in the fifth game where Raonic surprisingly fell 0-40 down. And while Medvedev failed to serve it out in the second set after being a break up again, he managed to win the tie-breaker after racing off to a 4-0 lead.

Zverev on a Rampage

Off the court, there might be a few controversies dogging Zverev but on it, things have only gotten better in recent times. The US Open finalist might be ruing his loss at Flushing Meadows after being two sets up in the title-decider, but he now is on a 12-match winning streak.

This includes two titles in Cologne, where he dropped just two sets, and a stunning win over Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal in the last two matches he’s played here. The Nadal win was particularly special, with Zverev crashing through the French Open winner’s party in straight sets.

The first set saw just one break of serve and it came early for Zverev. In the third game, Nadal failed to win a point off his own serve and that came back to bite him as Zverev held on to clinch the opening set.

It was in the third game of the second serve again that Zverev broke Nadal, only for the Spaniard to level things out in the eighth after bit of a fight. It wasn’t enough though, as Zverev forced Nadal to drop serve at 5-5 and then easily served it out in the next game to pocket a place in the final.

Wonder if these victories are a sign of the passing of the baton – both Wawrinka and Nadal are getting to the wrong side of the 30 and for some time now there have been talks of whether the older generation can be displaced. And while Wawrinka isn’t quite a part of the Big Three (or Four), he sure has established himself as a legend on the men’s tour as well.

Zverev v Medvedev Prediction And Tip

Both players have been in good touch and this promises to be an exciting final. After an indifferent year, Medvedev has looked in the best touch he has and is in his first 2020 final. On the other hand, Zverev is looking for a third consecutive title in the last month, and the win against Nadal would have done wonders for his confidence.

A well fought final ahead, but the Zverev confidence will see him through in two tight sets.

Tip: Zverev to win: 2/1 (bet365)
