Gracheva on a Losing Streak

While she made it to the third round of the US Open in what was her best ever performance in a Grand Slam, Gracheva comes into this tournament on the back of a three-match losing streak.

This includes a defeat in the semifinal of an ITF tournament in France before she was knocked out by Elina Svitolina in the opening round of the French Open. Her latest defeat came at the hands of Irina-Camelia Begu in the qualifiers of the Ostrava Open, going down in a fighting three-setter.

That was the second match Gracheva had played indoors and it resulted in as many defeats, both of which came in qualifiers of competitions. That said, Gracheva’s record indoors last year was something she can draw a lot of confidence from, having done well at the ITF circuit and reached the second round of the Moscow Open as a qualifier.

Can she squeak past her opponent ranked 21 places behind her?

Zavatska ‘Luckiest’ Loser?

Zavatska came into the qualifiers of this tournament in Linz having not won a single main draw match on the WTA circuit this season and then won her first qualifying round against Ana Konjuh. In the second, however, Zavatksa didn’t win a single game, and was trailing 0-6, 0-4, when she retired from the match because of an injury.

Not only did she recover from that injury but has now made it to the main draw too, as a lucky loser, which has to be some record for someone qualifying through. Not winning a game in the final qualifying round, retiring because of fitness troubles and then making the main draw!

And it’s not like Zavatska’s record this season has been much to behold either. Before this tournament she had made the quarterfinal of the Istanbul ITF competition which turned out to be her best result of the year.

Not the kind of record you want going into the last WTA tournament of the season now, is it?

Gracheva v Zavatska Prediction And Tip

If Zavatska’s fully fit she might look to trouble her opponent but we are still looking at a straight-set win for Gracheva in this one.

Tip: Gracheva to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
