Yastremska Promised a Lot But…

After winning two WTA titles last season, Yastremska had entered this year with a lot of expectation and when she made it to the final of the Adelaide International competition, it looked like she was going to live up to those. A defeat to Ash Barty in that title-decider notwithstanding.

Things didn’t quite live up to her expectations after that.

A second round defeat to Caroline Wozniacki at the Australian Open, and a 2-2 win-loss record at Dubai and Doha after that took her to the pandemic break. And while she has done well in some of the early rounds of tournaments, almost looked like she could even go the distance, Yastremska’s performances have dropped off as the competition has progressed.

Since returning from the pandemic break, Yastremska has made the third round at three of the competitions, in Palermo, Cincinnati Open and Italian Open and while her tennis looked solid in the opening couple of matches, the losses have been surprising. At Palermo, for instance, she eased through to the quarterfinal with back to back straight-set wins but then blew off a set lead against Camila Giorgi.

Her next two defeats came at the hands of Simona Halep and Naomi Osaka, but her most recent defeats to Daria Gavrilova and Jennifer Brady, in the first rounds at the French Open and Ostrava Open speak volumes about her inconsistencies this year. Can she finish off on a high?

Minnen Trying Her Hands on ITF Circuit

Things haven’t gone Minnen’s way at all since her second round appearance at the Australian Open earlier this year where she qualified for the tournament by winning three pre-tournament matches. Since then her only result of note came at the Tyler ITF competition towards the end of the previous month where she reached the semifinal.

At all the other WTA tournaments, Minnen either failed to qualify for the main draw of the tournament or lost in her opener. That’s eight WTA tournaments in a row for her without a main draw victory.

For a player who finished the 2019 season on a 48-25 win-loss record and won four ITF titles in 2018, her record in 2020, her inability to step up and convert that potential on the lower circuit into something bigger at the highest level, would be a bother.

Yastremska v Minnen Prediction And Tip

Yastremska is 2/9 to win this and we would be backing her to win this in straight sets to move into the second round with ease.

Tip: Yastremska to win in straight sets: 8/13 (bet365)
