Aryna Sabalenka v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head

Interestingly, in their only previous match, Paolini had defeated Sabalenka but that came in 2017 on the ITF circuit with the match played on grass.

Sabalenka Coming off a Title Win

Despite having not done too well in the three Grand Slam tournaments played this year, Sabalenka will end the season with two WTA titles at least. Coming into this tournament, she has the Ostrava Open trophy in her cabinet as well, other than the Qatar Open earlier this year.

And while the Ostrava Open saw her get a first round bye, her remaining four opponents in the tournament resembled the kind of players one would need to beat in the final four rounds of a Grand Slam.

It started off with a win over the talented teenager Cori Gauff in the round of 16 before she overcame a first set bagel at the hands of Sara Sorribes Tormo in the second to beat the Spaniard in three.

Jennifer Brady, a semifinalist at the US Open, was 1/2 odds to beat Sabalenka in the semifinal but was brushed aside in two sets before the Belarusian crushed her fellow countrywoman and huge favourite Victoria Azarenka in the title-decider. She won 6-2, 6-2 in a rampaging display, shutting off a player who had won the title at the Cincinnati Open and was a finalist at the US Open earlier in the season.

The world number 11 will look to continue her winning streak here.

Paolini’s Struggled on Hard Courts

It has been a forgettable year for Paolini with just four main draw wins coming her way in the entire season. More recently, she made three successive second rounds – at Istanbul, Rome and Paris – but all of them came on clay.

It’s on the other surfaces there’s a problem for Paolini.

In the eight matches she has played on hard courts, for instance, Paolini has struggled to win, clinching her only match in the qualifiers of the Shenzhen Open in January. That win over Martina Trevisan came in her first match played this season. Add the indoor hard court defeat in the qualifiers of the Ostrava Open qualifiers and Paolini has a 1-8 win-loss record in 2020.

And with the in-form Sabalenka in front of her first up, it could well signal the end of her campaign for 2020.

Sabalenka v Paolini Prediction And Tip

Not only is Sabalenka favourite, she is also 1/12 to win this and a mere 3/10 to win it in straight sets. Backing her to do that and to concede very few games in this one.

Tip: Sabalenka to win in straight sets: 3/10 (bet365)
