Sorana Cirstea v Julia Grabher Head to Head

Cirstea’s Won Just Three This Season
It’s been a year that can be written off in many ways for many people, tennis or otherwise and Cirstea would want to do something similar to this tennis season of hers. Having played in 10 tournaments all year, Cirstea has won just three matches in the main draw, struggling to even get to the main draw in some of those tournaments.
In fact, she enters this competition in Linz on the back of a three-match losing streak that came at the tail-end of a top showing at the US Open where she managed to surprise Christina McHale and Johanna Konta to make the third round.
A three-set thriller against Karolina Muchova resulted in Cirstea losing a final set tie-breaker in that match before she managed to win just nine games across two matches at the French Open and more recently at the Ostrava Open. That loss to Paula Badosa less than a month ago, especially, would hurt having gone into the match on an even keel.
Cirstea’s record on hard court surfaces hasn’t been her best over the past couple of seasons either but she starts off her campaign here against a player ranked outside the top 200. Can she take advantage of her opponent’s inexperience?

Grabher More Comfortable on Clay
With eight titles under her belt at the ITF level and all of them on clay, it’s safe to say Austria’s Grabher is a clay court specialist. That’s also visible in her record on hard court surfaces, with Grabher losing all six of her matches she has played over the past six years on the surface.
The face she has played only six matches on hard court too makes a point against her chances in this match, even if it’s coming against a player gasping for form.
More recently, Grabher tried her hand at two ITF competitions on indoor hard courts, losing in the qualifiers both times. Earlier this year, she had also taken part in another such tournament on similar surfaces, making it to the quarterfinal of the Trnava tournament.
Unfortunately for her though, without too many weapons in her arsenal to trouble Cirstea, things could get difficult very quickly.
Cirstea v Grabher Prediction And Tip
While Cirstea should win this – and she starts off at 1/6 – can she finish off Grabher in straight sets? We think so, although it might not be the smoothest straight-set wins.
Tip: Cirstea to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
