Arantxa Rus v Tamara Zidanšek Head to Head

The two have never faced each other in a competitive match before. This will be the first-ever encounter between them.

Rus, a Tad Rusty

Arantxa Rus has been out of form post the Covid-19 break.

Her best result has been second-round finishes in three tournaments and first-round elimination in the others. She even fell at the last qualifying huddle in Ostrava, denying her entry into the competition.

She had a good start to the year, reaching the semi-finals in Monterrey and in two other lower-level ITF tournaments.

Despite this, she comes into the tie as the favorite because of her good record on indoor hard courts, and Zidanšek’s preference to clay as opposed to other surfaces.

Additionally, her opponent on the day seems to be on a worse run of form than her, which plays well to the Dutch’s favor.

Zidanšek Struggling at 6-12 For The Year

Slovenian Zidanšek has had a rough year. Ranked almost top 50 last year, now she’s closer to the 100s than her best-ever ranking. This is mainly due to her form which reads a woeful 6-12 for the year and has lost all her matches on indoor courts, including all three group matches that she played at the Fed Cup.

And since returning from the break, she has only won one of the five matches that she’s played. Most of those losses have also been on her favored clay such as in Palermo, Prague, and Paris, showcasing how her bad form knows no favored surface.

Her best result did, however, come on a hard court. She rallied to reach the quarters in Acapulco earlier in February.

This year, however, can be a learning step for the 23-year-old, who’s still relatively young and has a lot of ways in which she can improve. A good performance in Austria could then be the boost that she requires to kick start this recovery.

Rus v Zidanšek Prediction and Tip

Though this could go either way as any sporting event often can, I believe that Arantxa Rus will start strong and end up winning easily if she maintains her strong start.

In addition to her great backhand, she has a great serve which she could use to wear down her Slovenian opponent. Therefore, a value option could be that she dominates in the first game that she serves.

Tip: First Arantxa Rus Service Game Winner – Rus: 1/2 (bet365)
