Richard Gasquet v Jonas Forejtek Head to Head

Gasquet Eases Past Carbaelles Baena

Here was one first round match which lived up to the odds, with Gasquet, who was 1/5 to win the encounter coming through in straight sets. His Spanish opponent, Roberto Carbaelles Baena put up some early fight but failed to push Gasquet enough with the latter winning 6-3, 6-4 to move into the second round.

The first set remained at level terms till the seventh game at which point Gasquet finally managed to break his opponent’s serve. He then served out in the next game to clinch the set.

Things were less cagier in the second, as Carbaelles Baena broke early, only to be broken back by Gasquet in the very next game. The French world number 49 then took control of the encounter with another break of serve in the seventh game before holding on to love in the next and soon repeating the dose to win the match.

Gasquet came into this tournament on the back of a second round defeat at the Paris Masters and opening exits at the Antwerp Open and the St. Petersburg Open, all of which came indoors. He now has a chance to go one better and equal his showing at the Montpellier Open from earlier in the season where he had made the quarterfinal.

Teenager Forejtek Stuns Cilic

He is ranked 399th in the world, he is just 19 and he was 6/1 odds to win his opening round match here in Linz and that’s exactly what Forejtek did. The Czech wildcard caused the upset of the tournament when he sent out the former US Open winner Marin Cilic in straight sets from their first round match.

Forejtek broke Cilic in the second game of the opening set and while he dropped serve off the very next game, he kept holding his serve despite some immense pressure from his Croatian opponent. Saving a break-point in the seventh game, Forejtek then broke Cilic in the very next game to 15, before holding serve to win the set.

And as if to prove it was no fluke, Forejtek then registered back to back breaks in the first three games of the second set to race off to a 4-0 lead. Cilic tried to make a comeback late in the eighth game but it was a case of too little, too late and Forejtek completed a facile win in what was his maiden ATP match.

Gasquet v Forejtek Prediction and Tip

A fighting Forejtek might have a chance here, but he still starts off at 11/4 with bet365. Expecting a fighting contest in which the Czech could win a set at the very least.

Tip: Forejtek to win a set – Yes: 1/1 (bet365)
