Querrey Glad to Focus on Tennis Again

Last week Querrey was given a suspended US $20,000 fine by the ATP for breaching Covid-19 protocols at the last event he entered the St Petersburg Open in October.

The American, his wife and baby son landed all three tested positive for coronavirus and were meant to self-isolate in their hotel. However, without notifying the authorities, they left the country next day on a private plane.

Now recovered, Querrey will want to put the controversy behind him and focus on his tennis once more., although he will need a substantial upturn in performance levels if he is to regain the form that has brought him 10 ATP titles, the most recent of which came in 2017.

2020 was not a good year all round for the man now ranked 56 in the world, with his best result coming back in January when he reached the third round of the Australian Open.

After the lockdown, he lost in the first round of all four tournaments where he subsequently played.

McDonald Looking to Climb the Rankings Again

.McDonald has won four titles on the junior circuits, the most recent of which came in a Challenger event in Seoul in 2018. His last final was in Dallas in 2019, when he lost to compatriot Mitchell Krueger.

Once ranked as high as 75 in the world, he has now slipped back to 194 after several years of indifferent form, and undoubtedly one of his ambitions for 2021 is to climb back up the standings again.

His best result in 2020 came in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, where he reached the third round before losing to Adrian Mannarino of France.

Whilst McDonald is known as an aggressive baseline player, strong of either wing, he has several weaknesses in his game which have hindered his progress. He does not have a strong second serve, and can struggle on the return against big servers like Querrey.

Querrey v McDonald Prediction and Tip

Querrey should win this match with relative ease because he is just the type of big serving opponent that McDonald typically struggles against. The number six seed will feel he has a point to prove, and should get off to a winning start against his compatriot.

Tip: Querrey to win in straight sets: 3/5 (bet365)
