Matteo Berrettini v Ergi Kirkin Head to Head
The players have never played each other before, and this will be their first meeting ever.
Berrettini Hoping For A Better ’21 than ’20
Italian Matteo Berrrettini had a breakthrough 2019 season with his second and third career ATP title wins, US Open semi-finals and breaking into the top ten of the ATP rankings. With a big serve and powerful forehand, Berrettini proved himself to be a force to reckon with on the grass, as well as on hard courts.
2020 did not turn out to be the best for Berrettini, with injury related withdrawals, poor form and early losses. It was not much of a season for him to remember, and he was lucky to be ranked number ten in the world given the circumstances, the change in the ranking system helping that cause.
Berrettini will look to get his ‘mojo’ back in the 2021 season as he may have felt the pressure of expectations after 2019 and that may be less of a factor in the new year. Being top seeded here at the Antalya Open, he will hope to get his year off to a strong start.
And he has an opponent against him who hasn’t played much on the circuit.
Kirkin Hoping To Make a Mark…Of Any Sort…
21-year-old from Turkey, Ergi Kirkin is a relatively unknown name on the ATP circuit. He is playing his first ever singles main draw on the ATP tour and has once made the doubles draw thus far in his career (Antalya Open 2018).
Kirkin has met with success on the ITF tour with two career titles thus far as well as being runner-up in three others. At a young age, he has exhibited promise and earmarked for a successful career ahead.
While the odds will be stacked against him in the opener here against Berrettini, and Kirkin will feel some nerves, he will look to play fearless tennis and leave a mark of some sort.
Berrettini v Kirkin Prediction and Tip
Expect a relatively straightforward win for Berrettini, against a relatively unknown Kirkin. The Italian will be looking to a much better 2021 than the previous season, and no better way to get off to a confident start.
Tip: Berrettini to win in straight sets: 1/8 (bet365)
