Alexander Bublik v Salvatore Caruso Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 23-year-old Russian-born Kazakh and the Italian, who is five years his senior.

Bublik, the Man Who Doesn’t Like Tennis Too Much

By his own admission, Bublik hates tennis and is only in the sport for the money. Given that he has earned over US $1.4 million to date, few can criticise his career choice.

He has yet to win a senior title, although he did reach two ATP finals in 2019, losing to John Isner on grass at the Hall of Fame Championship, and then to Pablo Carreno Busta on hard courts at the Chengdu Open.

However, he has enjoyed a fair degree of success on the junior circuits, winning ten titles, the most recent of which came in the Challenger event in Monterrey, Mexico that same year.

Beginning the year close to his highest ever career ranking, his best result in 2020 came in Hamburg, where he progressed through qualifying and went on to reach the third round, losing eventually to Christian Garin of Chile in three sets.

His last event was the Paris Masters in November, where he lost to another Italian, Lorenzo Sonego, in the first round.

Caruso Looking to Continue his Progression in 2021

Caruso ended 2020 at his highest ever career ranking, continuing the progress that he has been making in the sport in recent years.

Primarily regarded as a clay court specialist, he has made 4 Challenger finals, winning two of them, most recently in Barcelona in 2019. Three months ago, he also reached the final in Palermo, only to be beaten in the end by the American Frances Tiafoe.

That performance came just weeks after he reached the third round of the US Open for the first time, matching his previous best in a Grand Slam event.

The last tournament he played was in Sofia in November, where again he reached the third round, enjoying in the process a big straight sets win over Felix Augur-Aliassime.

His run was eventually ended by Richard Gasquet of France.

Bublik v Caruso Prediction and Tip

This should be a competitive match between these two, but Bublik will start the favourite. He is higher ranked and is more at home on a hard court than the Italian, who is primarily regarded as a clay court specialist.

Tip:  Bublik to win in straight sets: 13/8 (bet365)
