Daniil Medvedev v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

This is the sixth meeting between both players, with Medvedev having won all their previous five meetings.

They met three times in 2020, with Medvedev winning a tight battle at the ATP Cup, and convincingly at the Paris Masters and ATP Tour Finals in London, eventually both these titles.

Medvedev Looking to Further Year End 2020 Form

After a stellar 2019, Medvedev was off to a strong start in 2020 with  a semi-final appearance for Russia at the ATP Cup where he narrowly lost to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic. The rest of a shortened 2020 did not look overly promising for the Russian, with his semi-final loss to Dominic Thiem being the best result going into the last two tournaments of the year.

A turnaround awaited Medvedev heading to Paris where he was in stellar form, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final and continued his winning run at the ATP Tour Finals in London, remaining unbeaten and defeating the top three players in the world, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Dominic Thiem en route.

With a strong end to 2020 behind him, the Russian will look to continue the form into the new season as his chances for success at the first major of the year look as good as anyone’s and along with Dominic Thiem and Novak Djokovic, is one of the favorites at Melbourne Park this year. No better way for him to get his confidence going for the Australian Open with a strong performance at the ATP Cup heading into the major.

Schwartzman in Form But on Clay

The shorter 2020 season was an impressive one for Diego Schwartzman who reached a career ranking of number nine in the world and made his first ever ATP Tour Finals.

During the year, the Argentine was a finalist at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome where he defeated Rafael Nadal for the first time in his career, and also a semi-finalist at the French Open, defeating one of the title favorites Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals.

On the faster indoor hard courts, Schwartzman was a quarter-finalist at the Paris Masters and a finalist at the Cologne Open. Despite ending with no wins at the Tour Finals, the Argentine had a great run in 2020 and will be hoping to carry that form into the new season with the challenges beginning as early as his ATP Cup opener against Medvedev.

Medvedev v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

A good match between two players who have been in good form awaits, but Medvedev starts as a strong favorite. With his form on the hard courts, his record against Schwartzman and the nature of the most recent wins all in consideration, expect a straight sets win for the Russian.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 4/7 (bet365)
