Shelby Rogers v Rebecca Peterson Head to Head

Rogers Flays Ferro to Make Second Round

In a match of equals, Rogers did not give Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro too many chances before wrapping it up in straight sets. Rogers won her opening round encounter 6-2, 7-5 to set up this meeting with Peterson.

Rogers was off to a flying start as she broke Ferro twice in the first three games, and while she was unable to get past her serve again in the opening set, it was enough for her to wrap it up quickly.

The second set was more evenly fought and at one stage, Ferro even held a chance to serve it out at 5-1 but Rogers’ fighting spirit came to the fore. She broke Ferro back twice to level things off at 5-5 and then make it a third successive break of serve to complete her straight-set victory.

Ranked 60th in the world, Rogers is coming off a strong season in which she made it to the semifinal at the Lexington Open and followed it up with her best ever Grand Slam performance at the US Open where she was a quarterfinalist.

Peterson Mauls Maddison in Opener

The experience of Peterson proved to be too much to handle for her opponent Maddison Inglis as the Swede romped to a 6-2, 6-1 win to make it to the second round. In a match lasting a mere hour and 16 minutes, Peterson broke Inglis twice in each set and rarely faced any issues on her own serve to complete the victory.

What would please Peterson is the manner of win after having suffered a startling dip in fortunes in 2020.

Other than a quarterfinal appearance at the Monterrey Open in March last year, Peterson won a sum total of one match in the entire season, and that came courtesy an injury walkover in the first set of the first round at Istanbul.

In the process, Peterson lost 10 matches, of which only one of them came against a top-20 player.

A strong start here should fill her with the confidence she might have been otherwise lacking coming into the season as a result.

Rogers v Peterson Prediction and Tip

Rogers is 8/13 to win this but don’t discount out Peterson just yet given her first round victory. We could be looking at Peterson carving a set out of her opponent at least.

Tip: Peterson to win a set – Yes: 1/2 (bet365)
