This will be the first time that the 28-year-old Argentinian will face the 24-year-old Frenchman.

Schwartzman Drops a Set Against Ymer

World No. 9 Diego Schwartzman needed four sets to beat Sweden’s Elias Ymer in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday.

The Argentine, who hit 26 winners and made 48 unforced errors to Ymer’s 40 winners and 60 unforced errors, was given a tough time by the 24-year-old qualifier, who impressed with his athleticism and aggressive approach. Schwartzman, however, saw off the World No. 205 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in a three-hour-and-seven-minute battle.

The eighth seed Argentine is coming off a stellar 2020. He may not have added to his three ATP singles titles last year, but Schwartzman reached his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at the French Open and a maiden Masters 1000 final at the Italian Open. He also broke into the top 10 for the first time in his career, achieving a career high ranking of No. 8.

Schwartzman was 1-1 at the ATP Cup last week, losing to Daniil Medvedev of Russia in straight sets, but winning against Japan’s Kei Nishikori in three.

Muller Rebounds To Down Londero

Facing Schwartzman in the next round will be Alexandre Muller who fought back from a set down to defeat Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero.

The 24-year-old Frenchman, ranked 210th in the world, found himself trailing the more experienced Londero after the first set. But Muller recovered quickly and went on to win the contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-0, 6-3 in two hours and 30 minutes.

Having entered the main draw as a lucky loser, Muller hit 37 winners and served six aces to register his first ever win at the top level. His previous three singles matches at the senior level had all resulted in defeats.

Muller had won the first two rounds of the qualifiers in straight sets, but fell to Russia’s Aslan Karatsev in the third round. However, when Federeico Delbonis pulled out of the tournament at the last moment, the Frenchman got a chance to feature in the main draw and he did make the most of the opportunity.

Schwartzman v Muller Prediction and Tip

Stretched by Ymer, Schwartzman won’t take Muller lightly. However, one can expect a routine win for the Argentine.

Tip: Schwartzman to win in straight sets: 4/7 (bet365)
