Alexander Zverev v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between the two. Both their previous matches were at Roland Garros, and both went to the fifth set, with Zverev coming out on top.

Zverev Pasting for Mannarino

Last year’s Australian Open semifinalist Alexander Zverev stormed into the Round of 16 with a straight sets win over 32nd seed Adrian Mannarino on Friday. The 23-year-old German served 19 aces, converted 5 of 12 break points and saved all three that he faced to beat the French leftie 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 in an hour and 43 minutes.

A winner of 13 singles titles, Zverev never looked in trouble against the World No. 36, and was particularly good with his serves, winning 88% of first serve points (45 of 51). It was only the second time in 27 matches that Zverev beat a top-50 player in straight sets at a Grand Slam.

The men’s singles runner-up at the U.S. Open last year, Zverev has not put a foot wrong ever since dropping the first set against American Marcos Giron in the first round.

The towering 6’6” German rallied to beat Giron 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 42 minutes. In the second round, he needed just over two hours to knock out American qualifier Maxime Cressy in straight sets.

Coming off a solid 28-11 season, which included two titles in Cologne, a runner-up finish at the U.S. Open and another at Paris Masters, plus a maiden semifinal in the Melbourne slam, Zverev began the 2021 season with a 1-2 record at the ATP Cup, beating Denis Shapovalov, while losing to Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. All of those three matches needed three sets to decide the winner.

Maiden Fourth Round in Melbourne for Lajovic

World No. 27 Dusan Lajovic of Serbia reached the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time in his career after he bounced back from an early setback to beat Spain’s Pedro Martinez in a three-hour-and-13-minute third-round match on Friday.

The 30-year-old right-hander struck 10 aces and 48 winners and converted 7 of 16 break points while saving four of the six that he faced to win the contest 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-1, 6-4.

The Serb, who has gone past the third round in a major only once before (French Open 2014), is yet to win a match in straight sets at Melbourne this year. He needed five to beat Ukrainian qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky in the first round, winning the three-hour-and-24-minute contest 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

In the second round, Lajovic saw Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik take a set of him before he advanced with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3 win in just over three hours.

The 2019 Monte Carlos Masters runner-up, Lajovic, who has one career title, didn’t have a great 2020 season, when he finished 14-16. He also lost both his matches at the ATP Cup this year but his form seems to have turned a corner here.

Zverev v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Lajovic, who prefers playing on clay, has had his struggles on the hard courts. Also, he has had to endure three tough three-hour contests in the first three rounds. In contrast, the in-form Zverev seems to be in good rhythm and has been flying through his rounds. Expect the German to win this in straight sets.

Tip: Zverev to win in straight sets: 1/2 (bet365)
