Marie Bouzkova v Jil Teichmann Head to Head

This will be the first time that the 22-year-old Czech will meet the 23-year-old Swiss.

Bouzkova Flies Past Da Silva Fick

World No. 50 Marie Bouzkova needed just an hour to dispatch World No. 566 Gabriella Da Silva Fick of Australia in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.

The Aussie, making her WTA main draw debut at the tournament, having entered as a lucky loser, was no match to the dominant Czech player who stormed into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Broken once in the match, Bouzkova converted 6 of 8 break points and won a total of 54 points, exactly the double of the number of points won by her opponent.

The win came a day after the 22-year-old overpowered China’s Zhu Lin in straight sets in the Round of 32. Bouzkova had begun her campaign with a win over Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic, who had taken the first set but trailed 0-5 in the second before withdrawing from the contest.

Last year’s Monterrey Open runner-up, Bouzkova began the 2021 season with a run to the Round of 16 at the Yarra River Classic, where she was beaten by eventual winner Ashleigh Barty.

At the Australian Open, Elina Svitolina sent her packing in the first round. The Ukrainian had also beaten her in her maiden WTA final in Monterrey last year.

A 12-time winner on the ITF Circuit, the Czech right-hander finished last season with a 10-9 record that also included wins over Petra Kvitova in the Western & Southern Open and Johanna Konta at the Top Seed Open and the Monterrey Open.

Bouzkova, who achieved a career-high ranking of 46 last year, had broken into the top 100 in 2019, thanks to her run to the semifinal in the Rogers Cup.

Teichmann Gets the Better of Tig

Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann defeated third Romanian in three days to move into the quarterfinals of the Phillip Island Trophy on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Swiss was leading 6-3, 3-3 against Patricia Maria Tig in the third round on Tuesday, when the World No. 56 pulled out of the contest.

Ranked 58th in the world, the left-handed Swiss had begun the tournament with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-3 win over Mihaela Buzarnescu in the first round on Sunday. In the next round on Monday, she defeated another Romanian Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-2.

Teichmann, who is said to have left Buzarnescu in tears after the first round, accusing the Romanian of faking injury to break the momentum of play, came into the tournament with a 0-2 record in 2021 having lost to Cori Gauff twice, in the first round of the Australian Open and the first round of the warm-up event in Melbourne.

A winner of two WTA titles, having won on the clay courts of Prague and Pallermo in 2019, Teichmann was a finalist at the Top Seed Open in 2020, where she finished runner-up to Jennifer Brady.

Bouzkova v Teichmann Prediction and Tip

Expect a solid battle between the former doubles partners. They played together last year and finished runners-up at the Top Seed Open. Their first singles matchup should be a three-set contest.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
