Jiri Vesely v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head
The players have never played each other before and this will be the first match between them on the tour.

Vesely Clinical In Opener
Czech Jiri Vesely has been on the tour for a good portion of the last decade. After winning two ATP titles in the 2015-2016 timeframe, the left hander was ranked as high as number 35 in the world. With a game that is well suited to the faster surfaces he has his best results at Wimbledon making the fourth round twice, in 2016 an 2018 respectively.
His ranking has since fallen to number 65 in the world and spent a fair bit of time on the Challenger Tour in the midst of a disappointing 2020 season. The new season has been better for the Czech, with a good run at the ATP 250 in Melbourne defeating Next Gen star Casper Ruud before falling at the hands of Felix Auger-Aliassime in the round of 16. He did well to push Pablo Carreno Busta in the second run of the Australian Open as well.
This week in Montpellier, Vesely looked clinical in his 6-1,6-1 win over rising Swede Mikael Ymer in the opener. Ymer has been in good touch himself and a win like this by the Czech is a statement of the form he is in himself.

Gojowczyk Prevails Over Struff In Surprise Win
German Gojowczyk’s tennis has seen better days, but since a semi-final appearance against Daniil Medvedev at the Citi Open ATP 500 in 2019, it has been a disappointing road for him. The 31-year-old German won his first title at Moetz in 2017, made the finals at Delray Beach and Geneva in 2018 and ranked within the top 40 in the world.
A sharp decline in form and results has seen his ranking drop to just within the top 150 in the world and resulted in him playing through qualifying rounds of tournaments. Having lost in the qualifiers of the French Open in September of last year, and the Australian Open last month, Gojowczyk has been playing on the Challenger Tour to regain form and confidence.
After making through the Montpellier qualifiers, the German was up against number eight seed countryman Jan- Lennard who has been in good form in recent times. A mix of good play by Gojowczyk and somewhat off color play by Struff saw a rather one-sided win for the former as he pulled off a straight sets upset and evidenced the payoffs of the time on the Challenger Tour.
Vesely v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip
Both players have been on the tour for a while, but neither has really managed to make inroads after winning their initial ATP titles. They have looked in good touch in their openers and this could make for a good contest. Vesely has been in better form in recent times and can be expected to prevail in a decider.
Tip: Vesely to win in three sets: 10/3 (bet365)
