Benoit Paire v Nicholas Jarry Head to Head
The pair have met three times before, and Paire has won on each occasion. Their first meeting was on clay in 2018, and their next two encounters on hard courts, most recently at last year’s ATP Cup, where Paire was playing for France, and Jarry was representing Chile..

Paire Hopes to Shrug off Inconsistency
Paire is the very model of inconsistency, capable of excellent tennis one day, but barely able to hit the ball the next. He has won three ATP titles, and reached six more finals, most recently in Auckland last year, and he has made the fourth round in Paris, Wimbledon, and New York.
However , since the sport resumed after lockdown last year, he has won only one match, a first round victory at the French Open.
That dismal run has continued into 2021. He lost both his ATP matches playing for France in Melbourne.
And then, in the Australian Open, where he was the number 25 seed, he was drawn against Egor Gerasimov of Belarus in the first round. It was Gerasimov who took the first set, only for Paire to level. However, the Frenchman lost the third on a tie-break and, in the end, exited the event with barely a whimper.
He was given a bye in the first round year for which, given his recent form, he should be grateful.

Jarry Back After Drugs Ban
25-year-old Jarry is trying to resurrect his career after serving a 10-month drugs’ ban in 2020 for doping, having tested positive for two banned substances during the Davis Cup Finals the previous year.
As a result, his world ranking has plummeted and it is a long way back to his former glories as a top 40 player.
Since he returned to competitive tennis, he has confined himself to ITF and Challenger events, but he was given a wildcard into this event by tournament organisers.
And he justified their faith with a battling three set win over Jaime Munar of Spain, the world 104.
Jarry took the first set, but Munar was able to level the match after a second set tie-break. It was Jarry who dropped his serve first ion the third set, but he fought back immediately, and broke the Spaniard twice, serving out from there.
Paire v Jarry Prediction and Tip
Although Paire has a perfect head-to-head record to date, this is a tough result to call. Jarry is a clay court specialist and, before his ban, would have started the favourite. But he has the advantage of playing a man who has only won one competitive match in eight months. That should give Jarry a slight edge.
Tip: Jarry to win in three sets in the match: 3/1 (bet365)
