Bautista Agut on a Three-Match Losing Streak
When Bautista Agut won his the first match of the ATP Cup he featured in this season against Alex de Minaur, it looked like he had overcome rustiness, if any, coming into the new season. It must be quickly remembered that Bautista Agut was one of the more vociferous critics of the quarantine imposed by the Australian Open organisers but a win early against the Aussie should have calmed his nerves down a tad.
Instead, the world number 13 struggled to take things forward from there on, and has now lost three matches on the bounce since. This includes a defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the group stages of the ATP Cup, and then another to Matteo Berrettini in the semifinal of that tournament.
And if those two losses could be excused to having come to top 10 players, a first round defeat at the Australian Open to Radu Albot would have hurt, especially since he was a set up in that encounter.
Bautista Agut now has a chance to almost restart his season here in Montpellier, and after a first round bye, he takes on a player whose career-best ranking has been 80th in the world.

Barrère Finally Wins a Main Draw Match
After starting out the season with a third round qualifier defeat at the Australian Open, Barrère featured in two Challengers in Quimper, and finished with a 1-2 win-loss record. His ranking of 113th in the world, didn’t allow him a place in the main draw here in Montpellier, which meant he had to take the qualifying route.
And in both the qualifying rounds, Barrère fell behind by a set only to mount a comeback and win the match to enter the main draw of the competition.
Barrère, who was a quarterfinalist at Montpellier last season, then stunned the world number 40, Nikoloz Basilashvili, but admittedly the latter hasn’t been in much of form either. Still, a 6-4, 6-4 win for Barrère would have given him some confidence coming into this encounter.
Bautista Agut v Barrère Prediction and Tip
On paper, it isn’t much of a surprise that Bautista-Agut is 1/5 to win this but 3/1 sound like very tempting odds for a Barrère win. We could be looking at an over 19.5 games market or a games handicap of +4.5 for Barrère.
Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
