Roberto Bautista Agut v Ugo Humbert Head to Head

The players have never met before and this will be their first meeting on the tour.

Agut Looking At Deep Run After Indifferent Start To Season

Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut has been among the more consistent players on the tour for the last couple seasons.

Since the Covid-19 hiatus, he has however lost his consistency and has performed poorly closing out 2020 in both the US & French Opens with early losses failing to make the second week, in turn dropping out of the top ten of the rankings.

The 2021 season started well for him with a win at the ATP Cup against Alex de Minaur but has been followed by losses that week to Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini. An opening round loss at the Australian Open to Radu Albot was the icing on the cake to end a disappointing trip Down Under.

After a first round bye here this week, the Spaniard looked clinical in his opener against Gregoire Barrere winning 6-3, 6-0 and will look to continue his good touch as a deep run here will change the path of his thus far disappointing 2021 season.

Humbert Moving From Strength To Strength

22-year-old Frenchman Ugo Humbert had a favorable 2020 beginning the year claiming his first title at the Auckland ATP 250. After the Covid hiatus, the Frenchman had a good run during the indoor European season winning eight matches in a row and claiming the European Open title.

The Frenchman ended the year ranked number 30 in the world and along with a host of others has been earmarked as one of the Next Gen to look out for.  After an indifferent Melbourne ATP 250, Humbert looked good in his second round Aussie Open encounter against Nick Kyrgios where he was up match point in the fourth set. A mix of nerves and crowd pressure saw the Aussie prevail as the Frenchman capitulated.

The sixth seed here, Humbert’s path to the quarter-finals has been more tricky than he would have liked. A tight straight sets win against Norbert Gombos was followed by an intense battle against Dutchman Tallon Greikspoor. The match went to three tiebreaks with nothing to separate the two players and the Frenchman finally prevailed in a decider.

Tired but looking in good touch, Humbert will be looking at another title run here this week, if possible.

Agut v Humbert Prediction and Tip

This promises to be an exciting encounter with the experience of Agut taking on the rising talent in Hunbert. Although Agut maybe the favorite on paper, recent form suggests otherwise and at home in Montpellier, the young Frenchman can be expected to pull off an upset here in a decider.

Tip: Humbert to win in three sets: 10/3  (bet365)
