Camila Giorgi vs Nina Stojanovic Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Giorgi Starts Strong in Lyon

In her opening game in Lyon, Giorgi met the 22-year-old Slovakian Viktoria Kuzmova and defeated her in straight sets with 6-2, 6-3. The match went on for a little under 90 minutes and saw Camila dish out five aces and maintain her first service win rate at 81%.

However, Giorgi committed 9 unforced errors in that match against World No. 29 but ultimately, she got through to the second round.

The 29-year-old Italian has always been one of those players who never quite manages to reach the penultimate rounds on the tour. Her last singles trophy of any kind came back in the 2019 Bronx Open, where she fell to Magda Linette in the final.

Since then, Giorgi has played in a plethora of events but a majority of the time, she has succumbed in the early rounds. Case in point, she hasn’t made it past the second round on the WTA Tour since the Palermo Open in August last year where she was a semifinalist.

In the Yarra Valley Classic and the Australian Open, she lost in the second round respectively to Sofia Kenin and Iga Swiatek. She had a similar run in the US Open and the Linz Open as well last season.

Stojanovic Looking to Build on Her Doubles Momentum

Nina Stojanovic had a pretty decent start to the season, at least in the doubles disciple. Partnered with Darija Jurak, the unseeded duo reached the semifinal in the Australian Open women’s doubles where they ultimately fell to the pairing of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.

As a singles player, she was beaten by Serena Williams in the second round in straight sets. However, the Serbian did beat Irina-Camelia Begu in the opener with 6-3, 6-4. It was a similar story for Stojanovic in the Yarra Valley Classic too where she met Danielle Collins in the second round and lost in straight sets.

The 24-year-old has spent most of the previous season alternating between the ITF and WTA events but hasn’t got a lot to show for. She has been more or less in the same boat as Giorgi when it comes to delivering wins. If anything, she may be a bit inferior to the Italian in this regard.

In Lyon, she started off against the number 6 seed Sorana Cirstea and defeated her 6-4, 6-0 to reach the second round.

Giorgi v Stojanovic Prediction and Tip

This match will ultimately come down to how the two players are feeling when they step on the court on Wednesday. They are matched in terms of recent form while in terms of experience, Giorgi has the upper hand. However, given the Italian’s proclivity to lose to underdogs, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see her lose this game either.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 4/6 (bet365)
