Marie Bouzkova v Irina Bara Head to Head
While these two haven’t met in a competitive WTA match, there was a match played between them on the ITF circuit back in 2016. Bara won that encounter on clay, dropping just one game in the process.

Bouzkova Coming off Solid Form
While an opening round loss at the Australian Open cannot be a pointer towards good form, Bouzkova has had two other solid performances this year. The first came at the Yarra Valley Classic where she made it to the third round, leading up to the Australian Open, before she lost to Ash Barty.
That Australian Open defeat, to Elina Svitolina no less, was then followed by another appearance in a tournament in Australia, the Phillip Island Trophy, where Bouzkova drove herself into the final before losing the title-decider to Daria Kasatkina.
This was Bouzkova’s second WTA final, and third if you include the WTA $125k competition which was held at this very venue in 2019.
In getting to the final of the Australian tournament two weeks ago, Bouzkova also defeated the likes of Jil Teichmann and Bianca Andreescu before falling to Kasatkina. Can she continue that excellent run here?

Bara Hoping to Recreate French Open Form
Romania’s Bara has never been ranked higher than 115th in the world, but she shot to fame with a run to her best-ever showing at a Grand Slam last year – a third round at the French Open after having won three qualifying rounds as well.
That had included wins over Donna Vekic and Alison van Uytvanck, before she fell to the eventual finalist Sofia Kenin in the third.
Incidentally that run to the third round was the only time she won a main draw match at the highest level last season other than one at the Lyon Open early in the year. This year has been a similar story, having lost in the opening round of the Australian Open qualifiers and in the first round at the Lyon Open earlier this month.
And up against an in-form player, it looks like her wait for another top-level win will need to wait.
Bouzkova v Bara Prediction and Tip
Bouzkova should run away with this encounter, needing two sets to clinch the second round berth given Bara’s recent struggles on the WTA tour.
