Maria Sakkari v Barbora Krejcikova Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between these two players at the highest level but their one previous competitive match came on the ITF level where Krecikova defeated Sakkari in the final of the Torun competition to win the title. It was one of her 14 ITF-level tournament victories.

Sakkari Looking to Add to Her Two Semifinals

Two tournament semifinals out of the four she has played so far, Sakkari would be looking to continue with her quest for consistency but at the same time she would like to go the distance some time soon. The Greek player has won one WTA title in her career, which came on the clay court surface of Rabat in 2017, but since then Sakkari has never reached the final of another WTA tournament.

For a player who is ranked 25th in the world, and having seen a career-best ranking of 20th, it’s a startling statistic.

That said, Sakkari has compensated for that with her consistency. This year, for instance, Sakkari made it as far as the semifinal at the Abu Dhabi Open, where she fell to Aryna Sabalenka and then again to that stage of the Grampians Trophy.

More recently, last week, Sakkari became a quarterfinalist at the Doha Open where it was Garbine Muguruza who ended her run in the tournament. An easy opener beckons but will she show enough spark to push far into this competition?

Krejcikova Hoping to Change Doha Reverse

Coming into the WTA Doha last week as a qualifier, she failed to make it to the main draw after coming up short against Cristina Bucsa, a player who was 7/2 odds coming into that encounter. She had earlier made it to the quarterfinal of the Grampians Trophy with a win over Elena Rybakina becoming of her best showing in recent times.

Unfortunately for Krejcikova, she was ousted in the second round at both, the Abu Dhabi Open and the Australian Open, making it difficult for her to overcome her career-best ranking of 59th in the world.

Interestingly, Krejcikova played in a lot of smaller tournaments last season, especially at the exhibition level during the pandemic break, ending with a 38-14 win-loss record. This also included a fourth round appearance at the French Open, and a 23-6 win-loss on clay but it would be a lot tougher for her on hard court surfaces.

Sakkari v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Sakkari should be a heavy favourite here, and looks a tempting bet at 5/6 to win this in straight sets.

Tip: Sakkari to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
