Daria Kasatkina v Alize Cornet Head to Head

In the two matches played so far between them, the 58th-ranked Kasatkina has beaten the 59th-ranked Cornet both times. They were both played in 2018 and on indoor hard courts of St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Kasatkina Bags Maiden Title Since 2018

She has gone through a lot including an injury last year at the French Open that necessitated her to retire from her encounter against Victoria Azarenka but Kasatkina looks to have made a comeback this year with a bang.

Having shown signs of form across all the three tournaments Kasatkina played in earlier this year, which saw her reach the third round at both Abu Dhabi and Gippsland, Kasatkina shrugged off a second round loss at the Australian Open to Aryna Sabalenka by going all the way at the Phillip Island Trophy.

With wins over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Petra Martic and Danielle Collins, she went on to overcame a set deficit against Marie Bouzkova in the final of that tournament to lift the title. Can she now continue with her winning streak against a player who might be ranked quite close to her own ranking but in a form rut for a while?

Cornet Makes Underwhelming Start

Cornet’s return to tennis following the pandemic break looked to be headed in the right direction when she made it to the fourth round at the US Open but things have gone rather pear-shaped since then.

A second round defeat at each of the two tournaments, in Strasbourg and the French Open, followed soon after that to close out Cornet’s season and she has begun this year with a 3-5 win-loss record under her belt.

There have been second round defeats at the Abu Dhabi Open, Gippsland Trophy and the Australian Open, while that has been followed by an opening round loss at the Phillip Island Trophy and Lyon Open. What does make it worse for Cornet is those were unexpected defeats to players ranked lower – at Kimberly Birrell was 11/2 odds to win their match at the former and Clara Burel was 6/5 to overcome Cornet at the latter.

With such struggles under her belt, it remains to be seen if she can turn things around against a player in form.

Kasatkina v Cornet Prediction and Tip

A win looks all but certain for Kasatkina, especially if she can start off without any rustiness. Expecting under 19.5 games in this one and for a riskier one, with a Kasatkina win to go with it (11/10 with bet365)

Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
