Jil Teichmann v Paula Badosa Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the WTA Seoul in 2019 and Badosa had won that first round match in straight sets.

Teichmann Overturns Slow Season Start

It wasn’t the best start to the season for Teichmann who lost in the opening rounds at both, the tuneup tournament for the Australian Open and the first major of the year itself. Coincidentally, both those losses came at the hands of Cori Gauff, and that second defeat, at the Australian Open would have specially hurt with the Swiss player winning just five games in the entire match in that one.

Since then, however, Teichmann hasn’t played Gauff again and the results have been far more commendable.

At the Phillip Island Trophy, also played in Australia, she made it all the way through to the quarterfinals on the back of three successive wins. But more vitally, it was at the Adelaide International did she really show her true form, beating Kristina Mladenovic, Wang Qiang and Anastasija Sevastova to enter the semifinal where she went out to Iga Swiatek.

Can she now continue in that same vein of form and drill deeper into this tournament, kick-starting her campaign against a player ranked nearly 20 places behind her.

Badosa Coming off Lyon Semifinal

Having made it as far as the third round of the Abu Dhabi Open in January, Badosa played just one match in Australia – the opening round at the Australian Open – and lost that one.

Which is why coming into the WTA Lyon, it did look like rustiness could be a factor for Badosa, and for a moment it almost panned out like that when she was bagelled in the second set of her opening round match by Harmony Tan.

She came back to win the final set in a tie-breaker before defeating Stefanie Voegele and Kristina Mladenovic to make it as far as the semifinal there, before going down to surprise semifinalist Clara Tauson.

That defeat notwithstanding, Badosa has some sort of confidence under her belt coming into this competition, making this an interesting match-up.

Teichmann v Badosa Prediction and Tip

While Teichmann is a favourite here, starting out at 8/15 to win this, we expect Badosa to run her opponent ragged and win a set here.

Tip: Badosa to win a set – Yes: 8/13 (bet365)
